[NAUI Decal]Whether you strive to explore local ship wrecks, clean the bottom of your swimming pool, or intend to capture the Caribbean reefs with your video camera - this course is your first step.

Your Scuba Diver course will usually take between six and eight class-room and pool sessions, either at night or on Saturdays. We'll keep a flexible timeline to give every student a chance to feel comfortable with their progress.

Class Room

bulletEquipment - Understand its function and how to select the suitable gear for your needs.
bulletPhysics - Sight, sound, thermal properties,... - things are different in the water. A solid theoretical foundation is necessary to make competent diving decisions.
bulletPhysiology - Being submerged in water effects respiration, circulation and body heat.
bulletDive Planning - How deep can you go and long can you stay there. Here is where all the pieces of knowledge come together.

Pool Exercises

bulletSkin Diving - Swimming and snorkeling exercises will improve your watermanship.
bulletEntries & Exits - Depending on the beach or the boat configuration, there are different techniques to get safely in and out of the water.[Divers on Surface]
bulletUnderwater Skills - It'll take some practice before you feel "Like a fish in the water".
bulletNuisances and Contingencies - Neither dive equipment nor dive partners are perfect. Prepare yourself for the eventualities.

Certification Dives

After a written test you can choose to complete your five certification dives locally or during a vacation in warmer climates. Normally two weekend days will suffice.

Course Requirements

Swimming Ability
Swim 220 yards non-stop, any stroke
Swim 50 feet underwater, holding breath
Dive to the bottom of the 10 ft deep swimming pool
Age
The minimum age for certification is 15
Students 12-14 years of age may be accepted for a junior certification
